Encapsulating the spirit of GKN Mission Everest was the trek made by 20 GKN employees to the flight base camp 4,252 metres up in the Himalayas.
Drawn from all round the world, the trek team played a major role in the flight preparations and embodied the sense of individual and collective endeavour that lies at the heart of the broader mission. Their efforts provided the perfect proof that with vision, determination and teamwork anything is possible – even raising $1 million for charity. As such, the trek built on Bear Grylls’ success and provided invaluable inspiration for GKN employees to set their own charitable challenges.
And it was an experience that certainly left an impression on the trekkers themselves. “It’s really changed the way I look at my life. I’ve been inspired to do more to help those in need, said Kyle Wagner. Or as Martyn Vaughan said: “It was genuinely a life changing experience and the most rewarding thing I have ever done.”
