GKN is directly helping four African charities through Global Angels, providing food, shelter and education for children in Kenya, Mozambique and Uganda.
Mully’s Childrens Family – Kenya
Mully’s Childrens Family rehabilitates street children, providing them with schooling and a family environment where they can develop the necessary skills to become independent and valuable contributors to the community.
After 17 years of dedicated work, Charles and Esther Mully are ‘mama and papa’ to more than 1,800 children from the Kibera slums in Nairobi. Most had been orphaned by HIV/ Aids and had been living by crime and prostitution on the street. This award-winning charity is one of Africa’s most amazing success stories for street children, with 35 former kids currently sponsored at international universities.
GKN has donated £30,000 that will be used to build new dormitories and provide fresh water supplies.
Child’s Life – Kenya
Child’s Life supports schools providing both food and education to more than 1,000 Maasai children. With drought continuing to hit Kenya, it is increasingly hard for traditional ways of life to survive. Child’s Life offers support and education programmes that enable the Maasai’s culture to survive while helping them develop sustainable lives.
GKN has contributed £35,000 to the charity, enabling it to complete the construction of an invaluable secondary school.
School Feeding – Mozambique
This new project has been established by Global Angels in conjunction with the Social and Environmental Fund (SERF), an internationally renowned Fair Trade venture. SERF will provide education for 400 children in a brand new school, while Global Angels will provide food for the children through a school feeding programme.
GKN has provided the money to construct eight water wells for the project – each well can provide fresh daily water for up to 300 people.
ChildVoice International – Uganda
ChildVoice International helps hundreds of children brutalised or exploited by the conflicts that have blighted the north of Uganda. The charity provides shelter and education for children, with a special focus on rehabilitating child soldiers – many of whom are young girls.
GKN has contributed £10,000 that will be used to construct new housing and provide valuable education.
