GKN Mission Everest challenged us to do more for our communities and bring hope to the children of Africa and is a project of which we are all proud of.
During 2007 GKN people contributed an extra $1.7 million to their local communities in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. GKN promised to match the value of the extra community work and fundraising around the Group and has committed $1 million to Africa - $500k in 2007 and $500k more in 2008.
Together we will have contributed $2.7 million to try and help make the world a better place for people in need.
Keeping our promises – that’s the GKN Way.
BackHelping Nepalese orphans
GKN contributed £6,500, via Global Angels, to a Nepalese orphanage – enabling essential building work to be completed. While taking part in the GKN Mission Everest Trek, Judith Felton learned about an orphanage for girls in Kathmandu that could not be completed because of a lack of money. “It was so sad to hear that this newly built orphanage was lying empty because there were insufficient funds to buy basic furniture and essential heating and refrigeration equipment. The Nepalese people had been so kind and friendly to us during our trek and we had seen at first hand the poverty they had to endure. We collectively felt we had to do something for the local community.”
The GKN Mission Everest Committee authorised the donation of £6,500 to enable the completion of the orphanage. This meant that the orphan girls could be moved from a rented house into this brand new facility. “One of the great things about GKN Mission Everest is that money donated can make such an immediate difference,” commented Judith.
