GKN Mission Everest daring us to be extraordinary
GKN, the global automotive and aerospace engineering group, is sponsoring the first flight over Mount Everest by powered paraglider.

The GKN Group sees GKN Mission Everest as a powerful symbol of ambition, innovation and teamwork.

Never before has GKN supported a project such as this — and never before has it set itself such a challenge.

For this is adventure with compassion at its heart and a mission to raise $1 million for global good causes.

Using the mission as an inspiration to do something extraordinary, the group is launching a drive to redouble its efforts to support the communities in which it operates.

GKN’s 40,000 people in the Americas, Europe and Asia have a proud record of reaching out to the poor, the disadvantaged and the homeless.

Now the Group is asking everyone within the global GKN team to think of ways in which they can do more. And for every extra contribution they make — whether that is in cash or in kind — the Group will make a matching contribution to the same value to help clothe, feed and educate the children of Africa.

So, for every additional person GKN people can help in their own communities they will bring new hope to a child in Africa. Chief Executive, Kevin Smith said: “Wherever you are in the world and whatever language you speak — and GKN people speak more than 25 languages in more than 30 countries — the word Everest needs no translation.

“So this is a challenge worthy of a global company and we can see the spirit of what we call the GKN Way reflected in the Mission’s daring, innovation and teamwork. But the GKN Way also calls on us to look at the broader role we play in society which is why we will translate the excitement of this project into a global mission of compassion to do something extraordinary.”
