Leaving tomorrow... 5/5/2007

Well we leave tomorrow- All parts of the team are flying in to London from all over Europe to meet at Heathrow airport…then we leave together for Nepal.

We will have one day in Nepal to check all our kit etc., then we fly by heli up to the foothills…and the mission begins in earnest.

It is always so hard saying goodbye to Shara and the boys…I am going to miss them so much and find it quite to do - and if I am honest I don’t deal with it very well. It is just plain difficult. They have been my rock through this whole build up.

Please pray we are safe and make the right calls. Then if the machines and oxygen all work and the weather is kind to us, we stand a fighting chance of pulling off the impossible.

Thank you also to so many of you who have stood beside us this last year and helped and encouraged us when we have needed it. This is your adventure too. God’s speed.

ps and new man vs wilds air even earlier now...start of june I think!

Wow I just heard about this project today and you're leaving tomorrow! Just wanted to say I love your show (can't wait for the next season!), you're an amazing fellow, and best of luck on your record-breaking challenge!
Wendy T. (05/05/2007 11:50:43)
whatsup Bear! Just wanted to say I think it's amazing how your words and actions touch so many different kinds of people, from all over the world. I admire how you keep such humility, humor, and unfailing faith throughout your adventures. I'm a college student in Hawaii and this past semester I was so excited to discover your show and learn about what you do, it helped me to remember how much I want out of life! I was especially entertained by your Kilauea episode of MvsW, it's crazy to think such a place is so close to home. Right now I'm in the middle of reading your Everest book. It blows my mind that you and the team are going up there again! You guys seem so strong and determined, I'm certain you'll be able to pull it off. The updates have been really interesting and it's cool to hear about what's going on across the globe. It may sound weird, but I think the members of this team inspire people more than they will ever know. Well, wishing you and the rest of the team the best of luck! Aloha and God bless, Wendy T. :)
Peter Cooper (05/05/2007 13:50:43)

i love it: "if the weather is kind to us, we stand a fighting chance of pulling off the impossible." then that's the main prayer: that you have cooperative weather. and your families will all be ok, too. . . think of how wonderful it's going to be coming home form this one!
Heather - Detroit MI (05/05/2007 18:50:43)

Bear you are such an inspirtation to me, i would like to thank you for you contributions. I love your series Man vs Wild, which i think is Born survivor in the UK and your book "The kid who climbed everest" which is "Facing up" In the UK. I am currently reading the book and can't wait until June 15th for the new episode. I hope your flight goes as planned, and you complete your goal. I hope you continue with the Man vs Wild series and bring even more inspiration to us. Good luck with your trip! Yours Truly, Jeff.

Tom (07/05/2007 14:50:43)
Bear, you truly are an inspiration and I’m wishing you the best of luck on your adventure. Along with so many others, I’ve been captivated by Born Survivor and cannot wait until you’re back on TV! I’ve recently read all three of your books and have them sitting by my bed - like yourself I feel have always had an affinity towards the mountains of the Everest region, but not yet reached them. Once my student debts are paid off I will hopefully be joining a trek up to North Col of Everest in 2009, with other climbers heading for the actual summit. Having read of your near escape in the Khumbu icefall I don’t fancy the Southside so much – especially with those ladders being placed so precariously! Take care & we all hope for your safe return. Tom
Josie (07/05/2007 15:50:43)
