Mission Everest: Safety is my responsibility 5/1/2007
I was delighted to be asked to join this expedition and be a part of the Mission Everest Team.Following our adventurous paramotor expedition to Venezuela last year, I have been hooked on this mode of flying and could not resist the call to help manage the team in-country.
I will be taking responsibility for the team's safety, organisation and logistics whilst in Nepal. Having been on four expeditions to the Everest region, I am familiar with the practicalities and protocols of being in this wonderful country.
Having struggled up her treacherous slopes a number of times, I am more than aware of the arduous environment, the acute altitude and its sometimes awful weather!
I trust this knowledge will help make the expedition a safe and successful one.

Godspeed
Thanks PaulYoshi (08/01/2007 10:49:51)
Good luck with the mission and all the "work behind the scenes", Neil, that will inevitably be needed. Without a solid back up team, a challenge of this magnitude will have no foundation to take off.
Thanks very much YoshiAndy (10/01/2007 23:49:50)
Good luck on the mission and I hope the weather will be kind on the day.
So do I Andy!George Allcock (12/01/2007 12:49:55)
Neil / the Everest Team, It is recognised that no activity is without risk whether flying over Everest, working in a GKN factory or elsewhere, or indeed engaging in any human activity. I know that safety forms a key part of the planning for such an event as 'Expedition Everest' and look forward to using this as an extremely intestesting and valuable case study for improving awareness of risk issues and the management of safety within GKN. Best wishes for a safe and successful expedition. George Allcock, Group Safety Adviser, GKN

Can you describe your role as safety person. I guess part includes quality control of all gear. What do you focus on to insure good level of safety. This is an awesome responsibility.
Guys, thanks for your comments, support and best wishes. Steve, my role as safety person is quite a responsibility and I will be focusing on our equipment, the local environment, physiology of the flyers, the weather and our emergency procedures. Regards, NeilAmy Cornell (23/02/2007 22:49:26)
Neil - as an ESH Specialist for GKN I truely understand how important your job is. I wish you and your team the best of luck. I will be watching in an effort to learn practices that can be taken back and applied to our "real world" manufacturing environment. Amy
