Timing and Dates

Engine tests in Hypobaric Chamber to 40,000 feet. 

January 2007 (towards the end)
First 33,000 feet altitude test flight (weather permitting). 

January 2007
Final design of mission paramotor established.

February 2007
Manufacture two additional identical units ready for testing in March.

Mountain 1

March 2007
GKN Mission Everest Team go to the Alps for SIV (Simulation d'Incident en Vol, or simulated incidence in flight) extreme condition paraglider training with world Powered Powerglider champion and top paragliding coach.

The team prepare themselves in the Hypobaric chamber tests. 

The pilots begin their rebreathing IHT programme, breathing on their Hypoxicators for 90 minutes each day.

15 April 2007
All equipment packed up and air-freighted to Kathmandu.

20 April 2007
Gilo Cardozo leaves to receive all equipment and carry out site reconnaissance and finalise ground logistics.

4 May 2007
Bear Grylls leaves UK with Neil Laughton and Wolfram Messner to commence the GKN Mission Everest Challenge.

May 2007
Team ready and waiting for the window of opportunity to make the record attempt and complete GKN Mission Everest.
